Our introduction to John Calvin continues with a four-week series on "Calvin and the Bible" led by Rev. Charles "Buz" Myers, Ph.D, faculty member in the Religion Department at Gettysburg College. John Calvin believed that all of life should be based on what the Bible says. Calvin wrote commentaries on most of the books of the Bible, produced several editions of his Institutes of the Christian Religion, and composed catechisms--all in an attempt to explain what the Bible has to say about the Christian faith. Calvin’s understanding of the Bible and its place in the Church and in the lives of believers has shaped Reformed thinking and practice ever since.
This lecture was presented on Sunday, September 14, 2008 at Derry Presbyterian Church, Hershey, PA. Part 2 will be presented next Sunday, September 21.
